CERN Mimic Panel

I want to create an LED display of what the CERN accelerator complex is up to, because I follow it pretty closely and think it would be neat to have a similar kind of thing outside of a computer displaying vistars.
Status
- 2025-05: Design for CERN Display Controller completed.
- 2025-04: Came up with the idea and started throwing thoughts around.
Design
- Since CERN changes things on a regular basis, this shouldn't be one giant LED board that would have to be re-spun every time something changed
- Since there will be multiple smaller display boards, it makes sense to have a separate controller board that drives them
- Boards
- CERN Display Controller - Bridge between WiFi and the I2C each display board talks, and distributes power out to the boards
- LHC/SPS Display - Since the LHC and SPS are geographically overlapped it probably makes sense to share a board for these
- Linacs Display - Linac3/Linac4, probably makes sense to include LEIR here too
- PS Display - PS Booster and PS
Open Questions
- What boards should the following go on: AWAKE, ISOLDE, REX/HIE, AD, ELENA, n_TOF, HiRadMat, East and North areas
- Should SPS/LHC really share a board, or should there be a separate board on top of the LHC board that somehow lets the LHC LEDs show through but adds SPS on top?
